About the Center

The Displaced Homemaker Center located at the Bergen County One Stop Career Center provides comprehensive counseling, training, job placement and a range of critical support services, assists displaced homemakers, single parents and economically disadvantaged women to achieve self-sufficiency. The Center focuses on the transition of women from the home to work place. The goal of the Center is to assist women in attaining independence, economic security and self-sufficiency. Services include:
Individual and group counseling with professional career counselors
Vocational, aptitude testing and personality profiles
Computerized career exploration programs
Programs to encourage and support women through job training
The focus of the program is to upgrade displaced homemaker’s skills using job training education curricula that are tied to employment opportunities that are in demand occupational areas. Job training

Programs are offered in:

Training for Trades
Adult Basic Education for remediation
GED, ESL(English as a Second Language) classes
The Center also provides Legal Seminars, Personal Growth Seminars, Career Exploration, Employment Readiness, and ongoing Support Groups.
